The Yellow Horse
Our Pedagogy
Founded in 2017 as an in-home daycare, The Yellow Horse began fostering friendships and families in North Chesterfield. The mission was to bring back a place for children, reminiscent of yesteryears. A place "where everybody knows your name" and even your Grandma's name. At The Yellow Horse, we believe childhood should be full of wonder, laughter and learning! There is no pressure or rigorous curricula. We are local and family owned. We do not push gimmicks that elevate tuition, which in return keeps our rates affordable. We believe in the key elements of Early Childhood Development. Each class has a lead specialist that understands Cognitive, Language, Physical and Socio-Emotional development of the young child as well as Developmentally Appropriate Practices. Those are the pillars in teaching in early childhood. Each lead specialist possesses a minimum of 10 years field experience working in child day care centers. Rest assured knowing that with us, our staff is equipped to maintain a structured fun learning environment. This will prepare your child and their peers for a successful transition to grade school which is paramount in the success of the development of your child.

Get to Know Us
Children have so much to offer to the world - we believe in the power that they hold and know that they will mold future generations to come. The Yellow Horse was established by our Owner Fran in 2017, a mother of four, with 20 years working in the early childhood field. The importance of a solid foundation in Early Childhood is understood. The stress of having a safe consistent environment led by educated staff for your young child/children is understood.
At The Yellow Horse, we are here to give them the support they need as well as you the Parent. We are trained to screen twice a school year with Ages & Stages to ensure your young learner is on track. Having our owner on site each day gives peace of mind that goals are being met and there is quality interaction radiating throughout the building. We are beside you every step of the way.

We offer arts & crafts with supplies suited for tiny hands and fingers.  We also use workbooks daily to enhance writing as well as color, number and alphabet recognition. Lessons are tailored to exercise and master each child’s fine motor skills. Circle time is a good way to incorporate structure and listening skills, during circle time we review our numerals, and alphabet and also explore music and movement to release the daily jitters!!

Our Philosophy
Our core is centered around one of the founding Fathers & Theorist of Early Childhood Education, Jean Piaget. We believe in a developmentally appropriate program built around abstraction that nurtures cause and effect on the young mind. Allowing a child to develop lifelong problem solving skills through play is fundamental. We prefer this approach vs. a more direct approach where we set the day. Allowing more opportunities for free-thinking during play broadens the childs cognitive development and logic. These lessons adapted through play are critical to cognitive development. We believe children learn at best in this environment when Piaget's approach is implemented. Our hope is that these philosophies will continue to guide our children throughout their Early Childhood development and stand as a backbone for generations to come.
